thrifty tuesday: $19.99 vs $999

if you are a fan on FACEBOOK follow, TWITTER or INSTAGRAM, then you already know i came across this drafting table over the weekend. i wasn't really sure if i needed it, but i knew it was an amazing find at an amazing price ($19.99). after walking around the store with the ticket in my hand, i jumped the gun and bought it.

the true test of faith came when i tried to get it in the car.  #fail.  right. i had to end of taking it apart. there was this sweet couple who saw this black guy struggling (because i was) and the wife said, "john wants to help you. let him help you." normally id throw my hands up with a southern smile and say, "i've got it, but thank you." not this time. i decided to let john and his wife help. and thank you jesus i did!

the sweetest couple and john's wife even gave me two hugs. yes two hugs! you cant put a price or a limit on hugs people.
one comment assumed it was this one at home goods for $274. nope
what i did come across this high end drafting table from restoration hardware for a whopping $999. i mean i do like it and i am all for high end pieces, but...

so i know many of you want to know, "oooo mr. goodwill! how is you gonna transform that and make it beautiful?" well i kinda like it the way it is. if anything i may paint it black. i think by now you know black i my go to color.

so here's the truth. the drafting table is extremely useful. i have supplies and thangs all laid out on it!

do you have a drafting table? would you like one?
let's talk about it in the comments!

I think your bargain draft table is just terrific and I would love one to lay out room plans on. But...no room for one, so it's back to the kitchen table for me.

What a great find! I love that a beautiful piece has a new happy home :) I love the example you are setting for everyone to upcycle all these wonderful things instead of paying so much for brand new!! Xo keep up the great work!

My father-in-law has a lovely drafting table which is no longer in use, and they're building a new office. When they move, he is giving me the table. I am incredibly excited & looking very forward to it!

Oh my goodness that has to rank as one of the BEST finds ever! What a great industrial feel it has! It would look great with a faded black and white harlequin design on top! Or maybe a vintage advertisement...like an engineering firm! I scored recently with an antique tureen that I sold for quite a large profit (to an antique dealer who will make even more on it)...but finds like this are pretty rare!

Please leave the top just as is !! Maybe get a mat like the kind used for drafting. It makes the top have a smooth surface and comes in different colors, my hubby has a lite green surface. That knid of surface can take a beating and lasts ! This is beautiful as is ! I love everything you do !

I would LOVE to find one! My hubby thrifts all the time and finds wonderful items. Gonna have to put this idea in his head. I could use a place to scrapbook standing up!!!!
I like the idea of painting it black as well, but just the top. Leave the bottom as is. GREAT 2-tone effect!

I showed it to my daughter and she got so excited!! She loves seeing your awesome finds and wishes her mom would find an awesome find like that. At 13 years old she is an aspiring artist and would sooo love to get a drafting table like this. I love thrift shopping so, I guess I need to get busy looking!

Great find! I am so jealous, with all my design and architecture classes going on, I've debated one getting myself a drafting table so I wouldn't have to spend so much extra time in the labs. I've never found one that was a reasonable price and you were lucky enough to snatch up a good one.

Oh how I love a good drafting table! Back in high school I had the intention of becoming an architect so I took all the drafting classes I could. I was the only girl in them at the time. While I laid that dream to rest after a struggle through calculus I kept my love of the drafting table and design :) I would love to find one at that price point. Do you think you'll stain the top darker like the high end ones and paint the base black? That would look so sophisticated.

I have the first drafting table I ever bought, from Sam Flax in NYC, about 30 years ago! I refinished it at that time and used it for many, many years. Now, in our new house in N.C., and with the change in my business status (no longer designing, but importing and selling...) I don't need it. But I will never give or sell it. So it sits, upright, in my garage! You just never know when it might come in handy again!!

I found a really old drafting table with a wrought iron base and a plaque on it that indicated it used to be the property of the united states military. We've turned it into our dining room table. It has scratches and paint marks and someone even carved the name Liz on it. So much history and quite the conversation piece!
