ain't mad at that.
if you are trying to decorate your home, a random measuring tape in your car or bag is essential. the worst thing is to buy an amazing piece at a great price and one it doesn't fit in your car (if you haven't a truck) or two you get it home and it just doesn't fit the space. often there are no refunds on furniture bought from second hand stores.
i would add that a brightly colored or a fun measuring tape will help you keep track of it...maybe.
so remember having a measuring tape on hand at all times can save you time, and money.

Great tip! I always have a measuring tape in my bag (sometimes even 2). My mom mocks me for it, but it comes in so handy!
I sooo need to take this advice! I am always wondering if a piece of furniture will fit in the space I need it for!
And just as important: Know the ideal dimensions (minimum and maximum) if you are looking for the "perfect" piece. Too many times, I've left the thrift store, gone home to measure, went back to get the item, and yep, you know the rest ... someone else had scooped it up!

For those kinds of stores, I grab a pair of my best fitting clothes. Then I put my hands in them and get an idea of how much room and/or stretch I need, measuring against my body. The only problem I have is judging length sometimes. I picked up this super cute top that fits great all around. But it can't decide if it wants to be a long tunic or a really short dress.
Measure your hand span, mine is about 8 inches. Then you will always have an approximate measurement. A dollar bill is about 3 inches by 6 inches, I think. If a metal round measuring tape is ruining the line ofyour clothes, you can find an old paper one that you can keep in your wallet. Or make one. Ann
I have a 6 foot tape measure which is also a key ring. I believe I bought it at Lowe's. If I have my keys, I have a tape measure.
There's another trick I learned for women at thrift stores without dressing rooms. Find a nice big skirt and you can try on pants underneath it and lift it up to see how they fit in the mirror. No one will see your undies if you keep the skirt on for protection while changing.
