THRIFT TIP: dont you walk away from me...

there are a few moments times i have walked away from items contemplating whether i should buy them or not.

remember THIS? yea i walked away until i was scolded by a friend.

i actually left the store and came back at THESE. crazy i know.
lynda, walked away from these 4 chairs priced at $9.99.
of course she couldnt stop thinking about them and went back for them. i surely would have seeing that the above chairs from restoration hardware are priced at $99 each. that's a 90% savings.
now i am sure my friend dayka, did not walk away from this. its a very good vintage replica of the eames lounger. she knows how to spot an amazing piece.

when you are out thrifting, there are some finds you just cant walk away from because you know finding them again, at a great price is nearly impossible. if you cant stop thinking about it and you love it, buy it. your investment will pay off every time you walk by it in your home.

so tell me,

have you ever walked away from an amazing piece and then started have the woozy tummy feeling because you really needed wanted it?

Lord, yes. I've made that mistake a few times and definitely lived to regret it! I intended to put that Eames-style chair in my Etsy shop this weekend but it sold before I had a chance! THAT was worth going back for.

(And those Resto chairs are a steal! People were tripping over themselves to get them when they first came out!)

Yes I did!! there was a wooden box for $1 that I could not get to open so I left it on the shelf. When I went to the counter to check out, someone was purchasing it. I asked about how she got it to open. She opened it and inside was perfectly sprawling tin, it was an antique smoking box. Boy did I kick myself for not trying harder to open it,

@Kathysue, I know that had to be one of the worst feelings ever!

Two things- (1) A red blanket chest at an antique show that cost the same as a month's rent for my first apartment. Not enough in the kitty at that point in my life. (2) A very wide, big old comfy wing chair for $100.00. It was covered in muslin and I knew it would cost pretty penny to recover and in those pre-cell phone days I wasn't able to talk with my new hubby before making such a "big" purchase! STIll think about those pieces! Now I know better. Buy it and eat pasta for a month! :)

I saw a HUGE contemporary abstract painting in a thick aluminum frame. Circa 1980 most likely from the color scheme. It was sitting on the sidewalk outside a neighborhood second-hand store, 4 blocks from my house. $30.00. I drove back literally 8 minutes later. A man was loading in his truck. AND he got it for $25.00!!!! I PIMP-SMACKED myself all the way back home.

A tiny junk shop in Maine. I was holding a glass lamp and put it down , turned right back around and a stalker picked it up ... Lead crystal lamp $5.00 . DARN. I always remind myself, wasn't meant to be mine:)

I have had some major regretful moments, I STILL think of those moments and items I wish so badly that I had bought!

Still kicking myself! I've learned to at least grab it and walk around until I'm sure. That way, nobody can scoop it up right under my nose! Can you say thrift shop cat fight?!

I walked away from a set of nesting tables with bamboo-type legs one time. That evening I could not quit imagining them in a high-gloss fun color. Of course, they were gone when I went back the next day.

I once found some 1960's walnut armchairs, so stylish and comfy to boot, $10 each. We didn't have any space so passed them up. Immediately regretted it. Later I found a pair like them being sold for over $500. I also want to slap myself for passing up a 1950's atomic style bedside table. $8 and have never found one like it. Lesson learned!
