what would you do with this $10 chair?

i was out the other day just bumping around a few thrift stores and i came across these chairs. they were only $10 each. if only a had a client for these awesomeness i would have bought them.

with the cushions being in excellent condition i would certainly try to find someone who liked the cushions and that would save money from having them recovered, which can be expensive if you want a nice clean professional look with the piping. i would paint the chairs white and install them into a nice breakfast nook or use them for a special spring brunch.

now these chairs are NOT my style. i couldnt live with them in my space.

but tell me something. what would you do with these $10 chairs?

I'd do them in high gloss lacquer. Candy-Apple Red, Black, Taxi Cab Yellow or possibly Kelly Green. (They'd be fab in glossy white as well, but you already mentioned that and I would hate to be redundant!)

Heck, I have a client looking for chairs like that now...are they wobbly, or do they seem in good shape?

My first thought was the same as yours, paint the chairs white, leave the cushion as-is, and give it to someone else.

They would make a great chair for a desk or next to a table in a foyer. Would look great painted a light grey or white with the center of the backing a matte black. Cushion could be a graphic black and white fabric.

Hmmm, glossy for sure, either white or black (they may feel a bit too asian for black). I would like to see them recovered with a modern graphic lattice print, something colorful, Lilly Pulitzer-ish. They have a light airiness about them that says sunroom to me!

They were quite sturdy. Could probably stand for a little more tightening with the screws, but otherwise excellent condition. Just needed a facelift.

Really an excellent deal.

I would even paint them all black and add a graphic pattern to make it more masculine.

I think I would paint them white. Maybe even keep the fabric the same and place in an entry way...

Great find!

I'd paint them white because that detailing would look amazing in white! And then I'd HAVE to recover the seat. Maybe another floral fabric but one that was more modern. Or a grey and white zebra pattern cause it'd look completely unexpected on a chair like that. Great find!

Seriously, those are great. I wish I could find stuff like that in my thrift stores, but lately they're over run with reseller vultures. :( With these chairs? I think I'd do something cool, you could use the fabric spray paint and paint the cushion a bold color and then do a color blocking treatment on them. It'd be super fun.

Much Love,
Trissta

Oh the possibilities! I would paint them turquoise and put a modern fabric with a contrasting piping on the cushion or I would paint them silver and cover the cushion in a black and white print.

I would've bought them anyway and worried about where to put them later! Ha ha. I love the back, but the fabric definitely needs to be changed. Maybe a bold print in two colors to bring a fresh feel.

If these were mine I would bring out their regal-ness by painting them flat white, highlight them here and there with gold paint a little more in the center. Then I would "wear them out" a little with very fine sandpaper them polish them with turtle wax. I would then cover the seats in a very fine linen, or a cream damask. This would look yummy in any female's room or around a posh (or not) dining table

I would paint them a bright glossy yellow...and keep the blue fabric on the cushions, clean it up a bit!

I would take out the lattice part out of the back and then paint them white.

I would paint them mint green. A really lite mint green and keep the fabric.

I'd leave the fabric and paint them a glossy orange.

Paint it black and do a little outlining in white on the middle splat. Upholster the cushion in white with black cord welting!! Then I might have to fight you for it, lol!

You're right: retain the fabric, freshen it up. Choose a peach paint, neutral. Find silk men's ties that pick up the fabric's vibrant hues, and lace them up the back, to give it a "laced up" look that fits into parlor, den, sewing room or computer nook.

First, I would paint it white and find a graphic pattern that closely matched the back to upholster it with. But, then again, I would never had paid $10 for it! In my neck of the world, chairs are much cheaper.

I'm currently obsessed with painting things white or some crazy bold color on an otherwise traditional piece. With that said, I'm kind of surprised the cushions are in really good condition! Knowing my butt, the cushions would be the first to wear out.

I would paint them either black, white or grey (more longevity than a bright colour)and definitely change out the fabric. It can still be a floral but something more bold and current. Do buy them and show us the After!

Painted white or gray with retro fabric, in the salmon or teal family, for the cushions. Mid-century look.

I like the cushions how they are too....I like the idea of high gloss yellow or mint green. The options are endless. Whatever you do, they will look awesome!

Paint the wood a dark metallic - deep pewter or rubbed bronze, whichever best matches the room. Then a tightly tufted black leather seat. Mmm.

If the seats were in very good condition and would not need to be refinished, I'd absolutely just repaint them. Pink, high gloss finish and put them in a little girl's room!!

I would recover the seats in crocodile or ostrich skin and touch up the stain.
