5 things i'd like to do in 2012...

i am one that normally keep much of my personal goals and aspirations to myself. since 2012 has already started i thought it would be great to share some of them with you guys.

1. i want to find an agent. every since i was invited to be on the nate berkus show a number of times, i started receiving a few emails from networks. i get quite a few emails asking me if i plan to do more television or more projects or travel around the country. travel costs. the truth is, many people who you see on television often is made possible by a team of highly skilled professionals. agents. these people know the business and know how to get you the business. i think i lost out on a BIG commercial deal i was presented with because i didn't have an agent. not sure. it really stung when i saw the commercial and who they chose. i got over it. quickly. cant keep a GOOD man down.

i sent an email to an agency on last year. they snubbed me. perhaps i am being slightly dramatic, but hey. so if you know of an agent looking for a client, well...ahem. LOL.
2. i want to buy a condo or loft. after this post and reading some of the comments and doing some more research on properties, i realize there are still some great deals still out there.

i have almost paid in rent, the cost of actually owning a small loft or condo in the charlotte area.

it will be somewhat a challenge because i was laid off my traditional job in december of 2010. while clocking in to that 9 to 5 isnt for everyone, that 9 to 5 guaranteed income would show up in the bank account. let's be real here folks. you cant pay bills in fabric samples and thrift store finds. ya'll ain't saying much.

after one of my good friends told me about her $70,000 home purchase in the atlanta area, i thought it was time. so...
3. i want to open up a men's boutique. yea i talked to one of my friends about this. they weren't as excited as i was. so quite naturally it gave me more fuel to do it. i don't want a huge store. just a place where gentleman can come browse. hang out and select pieces for themselves.
4. i want to go to paris.

5. adding more clients to my portfolio would be nice. bringing a smile to people's faces through a beautiful space is touching. im not a sap. matter fact im not all that mushy mushy either, but it does give me great joy to see someone excited about their new space. which leads me to the

BONUS

6. i would actually like to have a team of people for 2012. you know someone to help make this business endeavor easier. anyone who knows me personally know that i am protective of the things i have worked hard for. i cant just let anyone come in. people may say they are for you, but sometimes they only come to learn all they can and try to one up on you. oh don't make that face. you know i'm telling the truth. LOL.

so those are 6 of the things id like to do in 2012. any goals you would like to share?

Goes to show how much I know about all the 'network-y' television stuff. How do you even look for an agent??
I would love to go to Paris too...
Men's boutique would be awesome...need one around here that my hubby could go to {or me...cuz he wouldn't!! lol}

Hopefully the new year brings you the best of your dreams!!

Isn't it amazing looking back over the year, and wondering where it all went? I finally documented things for me to do {small and puny decor...} it shall be interesting to see if I can get them done!!

I like your goals, you've made them clear and manageable and I wish you good luck (luck never hurts)

I'm wanting to get my makeover to my sewing room done so I have a good workspace and can work through the many projects I want to make and maybe some mini collections for myself!

Wishing you all the best in meeting your goals.

I make a list of 30+ goals for the year. It's the 101 things in 1001 days, shrunk down into a year. "Find more nutritious and delicious recipes" was one.

I look forward to seeing more big things from you in 2012 (:

Wow… you have three of my goals. I want to open a children’s store, buy a loft (why, I don’t know) and go to Paris.

You’ll make it happen!

Sorry you were laid off. I've been there and it's not fun.

I think really my biggest goal this year is to finish all of my personal projects I have started but never completed. I have such good intentions but it has a challenge for me to finish some things.

Great goals....
Have an agent ..... if you are sure that you are ready to have someone control part of your agenda and part of your income then start to talk to the production folk and other guests that you have met recently and see who they would recommend . Treat it like a job search and use some of the same techniques - a resume, three to five phone calls a day calls a day inquiring and discussing and asking for advice including taking notes and following up on suggestions and leads.

Make sure that you want you want ( and or need ) is an agent - and not a publicist and a lawyer with some entertainment experience. More short term agenda and cost control, and then an agent who sees your vision may reach out to you.

You do need an agent. I'm surprised you don't already have one.

I have the same goal as you as far as going to Paris. I'm dying to go! Hubby and I are toying with the idea of going this year for our 25th...

@ De Tout

25 years would be an excellent time to take a trip to Paris.

I think I want to go to Paris because of the flea markets and the thrift stores.

I know most people (ladies perhaps) enjoy the romantic aspect of it. But ya know...LOL.

I can respond to each goal, but can say that you can start your business by hiring eager interns (unpaid, until you are able to pay). There are thousands of eager students in your area who would love to work with you; especially those studying interior design. It would be their honor to put your business on their resume.

As for Paris, which is my dream too, but I am significantly older than you, I would have a company in Paris pay you to go to Paris. If there is a design show or a company that would sponsor your trip because of your work on Nate, then you wouldn't have to spend much to go.

As far as a purchased home, moving is scary, but exciting, and if Atlanta can open more doors with agents, managers, and staffing, then maybe you should heavily explore that.

I love seeing your growth. Can't wait to read how each of those 6 plans come to bloom.

Sounds like some great goals! Seeing what you have accomplished so far, I am sur you can do it!!

I have said before and I will say it again. You deserve a TV show! You are talented, witty, have great ideas....I could go on and on. :) I could easily see you on HGTV. We will be watching!

Best wishes for achieving all of your goals in 2012!

I'm positive you will reach your goals.

I am so glad you posted this, I have an opportunity to start my own business (a youth development agency for foster children), even a silent partner willing to fund my endeavor 100%--- I am afraid to fail so I have been holding on to a lease agreement for an office space I selected even though my silent partner continues to ask why I have not submitted it.

Seeing you mention your goals has really helped me this morning- thank you and I'm sure you will reach them.

All good goals, Rashon, well planned and thought out. Your career could go in a number of different ways and you seem to have covered several. I hope you find a good agent. You have the "x" factor. I could definitely see you having your own show, especially with the economy the way it is and will be for awhile.

Thanks for sharing your goals! I've really enjoyed coming across your site and checking out your personal style and your take on design.

I'd like to build a stylist portfolio and do a jewelry collaboration.

Also, I'd like to help build a fashion week in Austin, TX that focuses on sustainability and steers away from being a copy of NYFW.

Best to you in 2012!

I think these are all attainable goals. The store sounds like a great idea and you are already business savvy. I hope you can accomplish these things. Wishing you all the best.

my goal , at age 51, going back to college, trying to get into nursing school.
tighten up my garden so I don't have so much to weed. start more things from seed, have more to share with others.
watch them build the new Goodwill across the street from old one, right here in small town Indiana, no kidding.

Your goals are great! Until you achieve some of them, have you ever thought of doing an e-book? I don't know anything about them, but I have read other bloggers say what a great source of income they are. You obviously have a talent that people would probably want to purchase via a book.

Amazing goals!! Paris is stunning. I am dying to go back. You will LOVE it.

If you ever want some free tid bits on marketing, I'm more than willing to help and give pointers.

I could be your agent. I have absolutely no experience, references or know how in the entertainment industry, but you seem like you'd be fun to work for.

Kidding aside I think Tailgator's comment was very wise advice.

Good luck with your goals for 2012

Why don't you ask Nate; I'm sure he'd be glad to help you get an agent ... just a thought...

Ah Paris...

Years ago I met a woman who had organized a trip abroad for some friends and after a certain number had signed up, she got to go free! You could do a Paris flea market-themed trip: get a travel agent to set up the package & handle the travel arrangements, hire an English speaking tour guide, and post the trip on your blog and Facebook. I'm sure you have plenty of fans who would love to go!

As for my goals: I hope to be an inspiration to others the way you have inspired me. You've gone so far by just doing what you love. I have no fear for your continued success. And yes, you need to get an agent - it's time for you to start making some real MONEY!

I just adore your openess. You are one of my mentors in my head. I think you CAN live off fabric samples and thrift store finds. Many ppl have made it an empire. That is one of my goals. To also open a brick and mortar "Beautyque" for womens wear as I've coined mines. Maybe not for this year, but perhaps w/n the next two.

Word of advice from Natalie Cole's biography. Never, but never let any agent or manager take more than 25% to find you work. I feel you about the layoff & some doors closing because of the lack of income. At least your travel is tax deductible due to your income-producing hobby! Sometimes I feel stuck. Everywhere you want to move they want a credit check and when they find out you've got no income (albeit savings) well...you know the end of that story. But thousands of us are doing it, we just have to perservere. Maybe someone in Paris needs a housesitter for 6 months.

This is a great list and ALL is possible. I love the idea of a men's boutique. Have you even styled women? Just curious about how you style us:)

If you open a men's boutique, I know for a fact my husband would be there...you have impeccable style! Go for it...all your goals...they are completely do-able!
