[$17,000 vs $75]

it is indeed true. while at the thrift store i found an amazing side board for my latest makeover with Nate Berkus
i have always said thrift stores can be a great place to furnish your space. who would have thought a baker cabinet would be sitting in the salvation army. waiting for someone to take home at a fraction of the price.
chris and i assumed the piece would be worth perhaps a couple of thousands of dollars. we were waaay off. like way off. look above and see for yourself.
now i liked the piece as it was. however, the piece wasnt for me. it was for a "client." the most important aspect when i am designing a space for a client or a guest, is to make sure the piece is something they will love. this client was not a huge fan of dark pieces and she was really in love with shabby chic and french country design.

regardless of it is a few dollars or a hundreds of dollars it is important for me, as a designer to meet the needs of the client.

now that you've seen the proof..lets talk on it!

I saw the segment on Nate, and you did fabulous! The clients response was so priceless, and seriously, a baker piece? Well done, Rashon!

Would you please post the steps. I found the Nate segment too fast, and no specific product names, to follow.

I was home sick on Monday when this segment appeared and, WOW, I was totally blown away. I hope to see you on Nate more and more!

Another great makeover! I loved the buffet. I've been looking at my local flea markets for a new buffet, but I haven't quite found the right piece. What a great find for your clients! Did you paint or stain the buffet?

I loved that segment and was telling my mom about it. She thought it must have been "made for hollywood" and I told her no, you are really just that good.

Rashon, my jaw dropped when I saw this Baker piece on your makeover show. Great makeover by the way, I think it was my FAVE ever that you've done!! So fun to see you getting all this press coverage, you are so very talented.

Really nice. For those of us who missed the show, I noticed Nate has one picture up. The problem is: I can't see everything in the room. Do you know if he will be putting up the video part 2 where the reveal is shown? He has part 1 up where you discussed the ideas with him. Also, on You Tube Nate has a video concerning one of the guests who did the fashion show. In kind, will he be putting up the video of your segment of the show for October 17, 2011. If not, at some point can you put up the video of that segment? Or will their be a rerun of that show?
Thanks so much.
Your work is phenomenal!
I hope you get your own show one day. Who wouldn't watch? Under 300 dollars and you're performing miracles.

Sandra: I will be putting the video up on the blog tomorrow for those who may have missed it.

I havent seen pictures of the makeover, but I have asked the staff if they would be available.

Lets hope they will!

So glad so many of your enjoyed it.

Aren't you a total rock star! What an amazing find! I must say that it is the curated eye that spots a gem in a pile of thrift store finds. Great job. I did not see the segment, but I'm impressed! Way to go.

I also saw the episode and loved what you did with the piece of furniture. Another great place to find solid wood furniture is at military sales. Folks would be surprised with the quality of furniture that can be found at military sales.

That was an amazing find and I love how your refinished it.

By the way, I just watched this episode of Nate yesterday and you really knocked this room makeover out of the park. Gorgeous! I loved her reaction too.

I actually was home sick and was able to catch this show. WOW, WOW, WOW!!! Loved everything you did for their room. Gorgeous!!! I'll be checking out your blog more and following. Hopefully I will be going to the Salvation Army thrift store this weekend...hope to find a mirror and anything else that might pop out to me and fit with my home. :)

You have a good eye and these pieces will find their way to you. I have seen some amazing furniture at Goodwill and Salvation Army but not always the right fit for the requirements so have to leave them behind..cannot accumulate stuff at home either. Wonderful!

I LOVED this piece....it's amazing. Was it hard to give it up or did you want to bring it home with you?

I may or may not have stopped in 5 thrift stores in the past 2 days. Alas, no fabulous finds this time. One never knows!

Love this piece! It looks really upscale!

Thanks for posting your show segments from The Nate Show. As usual, you did an outstanding job. I had no idea about the Baker piece. I probably would have sold the buffet and used the money for other stuff. But that's just me.

I saw your segment on Nate and couldn't believe you found a Baker piece at a thrift store! I think I told my husband twice about it! I'm a thrifter, too, and a lover of Baker furniture ever since I was in my early 20s. I love the finish you put on the cabinet. It turned out amazing! You are such a great addition to Nate's show!

I know this is an older post, so I'm not sure if you will read this, but... I REALLY want to mimic this stain and distressing process! Did you use a gray stain or a gray paint, paint-water combo first? What color stain did you use for the second step?? You just said "a dark stain". I LOVE the look of this! It's gorgeous!!! You are amazing!

I am looking to give my dresser a little makeover and I fell in LOVE with this when you revealed it on Nate's show. I was wondering how exactly you did it because I can't remember how exactly you got that finish--my dresser MUST have this finish, please help Rashon!!!
