oh hey...sorry about that...jus countin' my pennies.
do any of you still save the old fashion way? i do. i normally don't carry cash, but when i do, i keep the change, bring it home and put it in my piggy bank. i am that guy who sees a penny and picks it up while everyone else keeps walking.
no shame. none whatsoever.
i save my coins yearly and at the end of the year i buy myself summin niiiiicccceeeee. i am not sure what i will buy for my 2010 savings, but i think i am going to treat my self to a shopping spree at goodwill.
so do you still save the old fashion way?

I have 3 to 4 huge glass jars around our house to collect all of our coins. I never use them when I'm out and about. At the end of the year, we convert the coins to cash and put it towards something special!!
Not mine....I rarely carry change and if I do, I try to use it up as fast as possible. Not sure why, just a quirk!
However, I do collect my fiance's change. I swear, that man's various pockets are just dripping in change! I take it out everyday and put it in a basket. He's always surprised at how much he ends up with!
I love your blog! And yes I put change in the multiple containers I have around the house. Last year I also bought everyone in my house their own piggy bank. Target was having a sale on them.
Yes sir, we do! One year, we cashed in one of our huge cans of coins and received almost $500.
OK so we all want to know how much you saved in 2010. No doubt you'll be buying something fabulous with however much you saved.
We save coins.. and it certainly adds up. We even have a game to see who can collect the most coins on an outing.. you know the ones on the floors, driveways, parking lots..
My spouse always put coins in a tin-can, or he lays them beside the can and I´m the one putting them inside:)!
It´s a good way to save for something fun!
Happy weekend!
"Find a penny pick it up, all the day you'll have good luck"!
Whenever I see a penny or coin on the ground I too bend down and pick them up! I believe they are pennys from Heaven! A sweet message from my mom or granny! :)
I also keep loose change in my desk at work. When the tray get full I put the change in an envelope. By the end of the year I may have 6 or 7 FULL envelopes! I too use the money to purchase something NICE!
Great post!
Absolutely save my pennies. In a big bowl on our closet dresser. You've just reminded me to get those babies turned into cold hard cash!
Funny, usually my change is given to the kids! But saving in any form is a great habit to be in!

This is a wonderful idea. I think we'll start this little "penny saving" project in our home too! And we'll do it the old fashioned way..in a jar!
I always stop to pick up coins, glad to know I'm in good company!
We have a few banks around the house that we drop change into. Wasn't sure what to do with it, because our bank is a military bank and the couple brick and mortar places aren't closeby. But then found out that coinstar machines don't charge a fee if you get giftcards! Yay! Now we'll put the change towards starbucks for coffee dates and amazon and overstock.
Sure do! In an old coffee cans.
Our problem is we let it get to the point where it's too heavy to want to go cash in.
"A Chair For My Mother," a book that I used to read to my daughter, impressed on me how saved change in a jar purchased a wonderful, stuffed chair. Still reminded of this book when I see my saved coins. Save on..!
Wow, yes my husband still collect change in a water cooler jug, and that baby is really heavy. I do bend down and pick up pennies, I call it humility. I like the new machines in the banks that count the change for you. Let us know what you find with your savings.
I try to spend my change, otherwise, my wallet ends up being 10 pounds. I save money the nerdy way...I have a written budget and write down everything I spend.
We sure do! The diamond from my engagement ring was purchased with funds from my husband's quarter collection :)
I save my change, too! I don't get much anymore since we also use our CC, but that's ok!
I sure do! Each year I dedicate the use for something different, last year it was for a trip, another year it was for Christmas gifts. My grand kids even know where I keep the jars and will drop coins in for me!
Of course! I have a jar of pennies and a jar for the "big" stuff.....$150.00 last year! My husband hates change :)
I found you through the Nate show and I am soooo glad I did. I have had the thrift philosophy for years. And as far as the change goes... I could NEVER understand why if people are going to go through saving change, why they would "loose" some of them pennies by paying a machine to count it. ;-P Keep on rolling! And thank you for the renewed inspiration. Nopper
