Today is Thursday's Thrifting Tips,
What items would you NEVER buy 2nd hand (from Salvation Army, Goodwill, 2nd hand, Craigslist, etc).
I will never buy a bed, pillows or a toilet. Anything that will give me cooties, I wont buy...lol

I'd have to say I'd never buy through thrifting or on Craigslist: undergarments, bathing suits, appliances... and probably now mattresses.

I don't have restrictions as to second-hand purchases. However, I do believe that if you invite a second-hand piece into your home, you must make sure it is clean. With upholstery, this is extremely difficult, but if the lines of the piece are extraordinary and unique it is well worth the time and effort to have it reupholstered.

There's actually very little, in terms of décor and furnishings, that I wouldn't buy. I'm not opposed to buying upholstery second-hand as long as it's fairly new and in good condition. (I rarely want to pay the price to get things recovered.) I guess I do draw the line at mattresses, though.
What about you?

For me.. I would never buy undies or matresses... a few months ago I wouldve said glassware and such but some of the best vintage pieces that make a great table scape are in the dish aisle... My recent ubsession... GOLD FLATWARE!
Anything close to my body (under garments), mattresses, and linens (ie towels and bedding).
The chair I'm reupholstering was sooo gross. There was so much kitty litter in the crevasses. Even sewing needles. I don't understand that.
I would have to agree with Champagne taste about underwear and mattresses. I guess you can include swim shorts with underwear. I have never purchased an upholstered piece without the intention of having it reupholstered so I never thought about the "cooties" factor. Great post.
PS. I received my gift in the mail today and am loving it. Thanks again and happy holidays
Hi
Yes - I'd have to agree with the other comments, underclothes, bathing suit, mattress, bed pillow...
This was my first time to your blog (I love it) and I'm anxious to go back and read more - so nice to meet you.
I'm a fellow Goodwill addict -

Underwear was my first instinct as well, but then I remembered actually seeing a pair of dentures in a thrift store once, and I would have to say that it climbed to the top of the list!
